On May 27, 2023, the First Interdisciplinary Research Forum on Artificial Intelligence and Marxist Theory Disciplines, which was hosted by Southwest Jiaotong University and organized by the School of Marxism and the Artificial Intelligence and Social Consciousness Laboratory of Southwest Jiaotong University, was successfully held at Chengdu’s Jinhe Hotel. More than 100 experts and scholars within and out of the University attended the forum. These experts and scholars included Wang Shunhong, Secretary of the CPC Southwest Jiaotong University Committee, Luo Zhongping, Deputy Secretary and Deputy Chairman of the Party Leadership Group of the Sichuan Social Sciences Association, Qiu Zeqi, Distinguished Professor of Peking University Boya Education Institution, Han Dongxue, Professor of the School of Marxism of Tsinghua University, Tian Yonghong, Distinguished Professor of Peking University Boya Education Institution, Wu Manyi, Dean of the School of Marxism of the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Wang Bolu, Professor of the School of Philosophy of Renmin University of China, Yan Kunru, Professor of the School of Marxism of Shanghai University, Xie Yu, Professor of the School of Marxism of Southwest Jiaotong University, and Yang Yifan, Professor of the National Population and Aging Think Tank.
The opening ceremony of the forum was hosted by Professor Zhang Xueyong, Executive Director of the Division of Liberal Arts of Southwest Jiaotong University.
Wang Shunhong, Secretary of the CPC Southwest Jiaotong University Committee, gave a speech. In his speech, Wang Shunhong expressed warm congratulations to the holding of this forum and his heartfelt gratitude to the experts and students who actively supported this forum. He also pointed out that since artificial intelligence is a core element in the era of digital civilization, the School of Marxism and the Artificial Intelligence and Social Consciousness Laboratory should take this forum as a critical opportunity to strengthen the interdisciplinary research of artificial intelligence and Marxist theory disciplines, and foster the construction of Marxist disciplines and talent development of Southwest Jiaotong University.
Luo Zhongping, Deputy Secretary and Deputy Chairman of the Sichuan Social Sciences Association, expressed sincere greetings and warm congratulations to this forum on behalf of the Sichuan Social Sciences Association. According to Luo Zhongping, the construction of key laboratories of philosophy and social sciences is of vital importance in strengthening the construction of new liberal arts disciplines. In the initial stage of laboratory construction, we needed to integrate various resources, give full play to the advantages of clusters, promoting innovation in methods, theories, and achievements, and strengthening collaborative creation, thereby realizing complementary advantages and making remarkable contributions to the construction of a “Double First-Class” university.
At 9:30 a.m., Wang Shunhong and Luo Zhongping jointly unveiled the Artificial Intelligence and Social Consciousness Laboratory, and issued a letter of appointment to the present members of the Academic Committee of the Artificial Intelligence and Social Consciousness Laboratory.
At the conference, professors made speeches in turn. Professor Qiu Zeqi gave a speech titled “Digitization and the Liberal Arts Paradigm Revolution”; Professor Han Dongxue gave a speech titled “The Epoch-making Significance of the Combination of Artificial Intelligence and Ideological Work”; Professor Tian Yonghong gave a speech titled “From Large Models to AI for Science: A Technological and Industrial Revolution Affecting the Whole Society”; Professor Wu Manyi gave a speech titled “Digital Anxiety and Subjectivity Construction”; Professor Wang Bolu gave a speech titled “The Contemporary Connotation of the Marxist View of Science and Technology”; Professor Yan Kunru gave a speech titled “The Dilemma of Digital Labor Justice and Its Pursuit of Value”; Professor Xie Yu gave a speech titled “The Nature of Artificial Intelligence Emotions and the Possibility of Alienation”; Professor Yang Yifan gave a speech titled “The Progress, Problems and Countermeasures of Urban Community Governance Empowered by Artificial Intelligence”.
In the afternoon, a sub-forum discussion was took place during the conference.
Professor Tian Yongxiu, Executive Dean of the School of Marxism of Southwest Jiaotong University and Head of the Artificial Intelligence and Social Consciousness Laboratory, summarized the conference and expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all experts, scholars, and other participants for their collaborative support. Tian Yongxiu mentioned that at this high-level, high-quality, and highly anticipated seminar, the participating experts and scholars exchanged ideas on the challenges, opportunities, and coping strategies of artificial intelligence from various aspects such as ideology, social governance, and educational reform, which reflected their extraordinary academic attainment. In the end, Tian Yongxiu pointed out that the interdisciplinary research on the combination of artificial intelligence and Marxist theory urgently required our continuous enrichment and improvement. He hoped that this seminar can promote the change of the research paradigm of Marxist theory and give rise to more outstanding research results.
