On October 28th, 2023, the Sichuan Politics Society’s 2023 Annual Academic Meeting & The Theoretical Seminar on “Chinese-style Modernization and Grassroots Governance in Sichuan” was held in Nanchong. This event was hosted by the Sichuan Politics Society and organized by the School of Politics and Administration of China West Normal University, the Sichuan Party History and Party Building Research Center, and the Institute of Politics of China West Normal University. More than 160 representatives, including experts and scholars from various domestic colleges, the Academy of Social Sciences and the Party school system, practitioners from Party and government institutions, and editors of authoritative academic journals, attended this academic event. Our School’s Professor Lin Bohai, Professor Tian Xuemei, Professor Li Chunmei, Associate Professor Li Shimin, Lecturer Zhang Lulu, Lecturer Li Xincheng, Lecturer Gao Qingpan, doctoral students Li Pan, Lou Gao, Zhang Xidan and Liu Xuejiao, masters student Deng Yingying, and other 12 faculty members and students attended this event.
The conference conducted in-depth discussions and exchanges on the theme of “Chinese-style modernization and grassroots governance in Sichuan”. At the conference, Professor Lin Bohai made a keynote speech titled “The Characteristics of Global Modernization Contained in Chinese-style Modernization”, Professor Tian Xuemei gave a keynote speech titled “Several Reflections on Strengthening the Construction of the National People’s Congress Sub-district Working Committee System”, and Professor Li Chunmei served as the commentator of the parallel forum and had in-depth exchanges with experts and scholars. Moreover, Associate Professor Li Shimin, Lecturer Gao Qingpan, Lecturer Zhang Lulu, and doctoral students Li Pan, Lou Gao, Zhang Xidan, and Liu Xuejiao gave keynote speeches at the parallel forum.
A total of 103 papers that were consistent with the theme and specifications were collected at the conference. The organizer invited experts to review the papers, and selected 5 first-prize winning papers, 10 second-prize winning papers, and 20 third-prize winning papers based on a preferential orientation. Among these papers, one paper by the faculty member and student of our School won the first prize, 3 won the second prize, and 2 won the third prize, all of which were unanimously acknowledged and praised by fellow experts.
Based on “Chinese-style modernization and grassroots governance in Sichuan”, this annual academic meeting has deepened participants’ understanding of its theme and expanded their academic horizons through comprehensive academic exchanges. Faculty members and students of our School actively participated in this annual meeting, which strengthened professional exchanges, improved academic attainments, and created positive significance for strengthening the discipline construction of our School.
